Every now and then I think about how I am going to help my grandkids do well in their personal and professional pursuits. Below is a potential conversation between me and my grandson Calvin about college.

I realize that you are only 2 but it’s not too early to start to talk about college and your career.
I was looking at some options for you and I think a bachelor’s degree in bagpiping makes a lot of sense. You can get a degree at Carnegie Mellon which is a great school.
It’s not easy. You will need to practice 5 days week for several years. But once you’re done you can make $15 an hour largely playing at funerals. Plus, you get to wear a kilt and not many jobs let you do that.
What do you think? Don’t tell your parents but I bought you some bagpipes for your birthday. They only cost $300.
If you don’t like that idea, how about a Bachelor’s in Circus Arts? The Swinburne University of Technology in Australia offers them. I have never heard of this school, but I am sure that it is one of the best in the world.
