The greatest sentence ever written

Walter Isaacson, in his new book entitled The Greatest Sentence ever Written, argues that the greatest sentence is:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

My candidate is the sentence:

I love you. Author unclear.

Why did I pick this sentence?

Telling someone “I love you” can be one of the most emotionally powerful things humans do. Those three words can change or cement relationships, shape memories, reduce fear, deepen trust, and sometimes alter the course of a person’s life

Hearing “I love you” provides reassurance that you matter, you are valued, and you are not alone. Expressions of love can repair emotional distance, soften conflict, comfort grief, and help people feel worthy or accepted.

No one ever tires of hearing it. And most people vividly remember the first time someone said “I love you,” the last time a parent said it, or moments when they desperately needed to hear it.

You don’t have to be a great orator or a brilliant writer to say “I love you” to a spouse, child, parent, sibling, friend or anyone close to you.

Say it today (perhaps accompanied by a hug). It is a great gift that is so easy to give and its impact can be incalculable.
